Caravan Windows
Double-glazed windows are usually fitted to all touring caravan windows. Touring caravan windows usually comprise of two double-glazed panels, usually with a rectangular shaped outer pane and a flat interior panel. Double-glazing reduces heat loss and improves the energy efficiency of the caravan. However, it does not provide the same level of insulation as its double glass counterpart. Double-glazing can sometimes develop crazing, which cannot easily be rectified, especially when the wrong window cleaning product is used.
It is best to choose moisture-resistant vinyl windows over the aluminium ones for caravan windows. Vinyl windows have the advantage that they can withstand extreme temperatures, and because they are moisture-resistant, condensation buildup is unlikely to form on them. Vinyl windows cost more than their aluminium counterparts, but they will last much longer. A caravan owner looking for long term caravan protection should therefore consider purchasing a set of vinyl windows.
It is important to remove any debris, including bird droppings, small insects, and road salt or charcoal from your caravans and caravan windows before you clean them. Caravans are at the risk of being flooded if they are equipped with sump pumps. If water gets into the caravans it could cause structural damage, leading to the collapse of the building. Similarly, any moisture in the air can seep into the structure of the caravans and fuel leaks are very possible.
You can clean your caravans using a mild detergent, such as laundry soap. However, it is best to use a specialist cleaning product, as some cleaning products can leave streaks on the surface of the acrylic plastic that can only be removed by a specialist’s products. Cleaning the caravans should always begin by removing any accessories from the walls and ceiling of the caravan windows. These include any fans, patio heaters, fire pits etc.
Once you have washed the caravan windows properly you can then wipe them down with a damp cloth. Care should be taken to ensure that no dirt and moisture is left behind, as this can cause damage to the coating. Wipe the surface down with another damp cloth to remove any residue left over from the cleaning solution. After wiping down the caravan windows thoroughly, it may be a good idea to treat the surfaces with a silicone based lubricant, as this can help reduce the amount of moisture that builds up against the surface of the window.
Some caravanners are now available with double-glazed acrylic window installed, these provide extra levels of security against heat and cold. Double glazing works by creating an insulated barrier between the inside and outside of the caravan windows. This helps keep temperatures more balanced and prevents heat from escaping. While double glazing is an option that can be installed, most people prefer to choose a wooden exterior window that is sealed and will retain the heat that is generated from the engine of the caravan. One other option for those looking to conserve energy is to choose an external frame although most caravanners are sold with windows that have an external frame included as standard.
